My Harpactira Pulchripes molted out as a male.

My Harpactira Pulchripes molted out as a male. I’m not necessarily new to tarantula husbandry, but having them become mature males is new. I recently lost my caribena versicolor after he matured as a male. He lived for a couple of months before he just slowed down and died. You know how it is. Anyway, my question is, what should I expect for my Harpactira Pulchripes’ life span from this point after his final molt. I offered him crickets and one strolled by in front of him and he ignored it. That’s not to say he didn’t eat it later. He’s out all the time. For a long while today he sat and groomed his feet. So he seems fine for the moment. I’d appreciate any advise. I’m always trying to learn.

The fact is - there's nothing you can do once it matures out male. It basically has its days numbered.

Try to keep feeding it and just keep a full waterdish. Nothing else.

Unfortunately there's no exact timeline once they matured - could be months, could be a year or so if you're lucky. Nothing much you can do but keep caring and feeding (if he's eating) and let him live his best life.

There's of course the option to breed or loan him out as well if anyone is looking for a MM.

I have 4 MM right now, one of which is an H puchripes and luckily, he’s one of the better eaters of the bunch. Interestingly, he has never tapped. Maybe maturing at 3.5” surprised him, too. Keep a corner moist (even for arid species) to help slow dehydration. I give them prekilled super worms. They usually get taken once a month, though I try every 2 weeks. Sometimes they take them.

if its not done sperm web yet, you could always transfer it to a smaller enclosure. This helps with feeding and reduces energy waste.

even if you gave it the cadillac of hospitality, it could go either or. Some mature males seem to last forever, while others, don’t last a year.

it also depends on your goal.

figure that one out and then you will adapt what you do.

if you want someone to breed him to their female, act quick. A nice strong fresh male is a good match to ready to breed female.

My H. pulchripes lived about 2 months after maturing. Looks like there can be a lot of variation.

Try to find someone with a lady who could use him. Imo it's better to allow them to fulfill their purpose in life than wither away. And if a sac is produced you get a few slings from it and his bloodline is carried on!

I checked my records, it was actually a little over 4 months. I guess it just felt too fast.
