Thanks Ed my girlfriend had got me this emporer at christmas she loved it because it was so big we added a small emporer in there about a month later not sure if it was preagnant before or what but i love it so neat.
Great grlfrnd! You'd better hold on to her if she buys you scorps. Gestation period for P. imperator is too long to have become gravid since January or December, so yes, she was gravid prior to purchase.
Emps have been known to have quite a range. I have heard a minimal number of 10 in the past (dont' know why there were so few but she or other in the enclosure probably ate a lot of them) and have heard numbers approaching thirty (never actually saw that big number myself). Commonly, 15-25 should be expected.
Two of the babies left mom today, and I moved them into their own container. I got a cute picture, too. I've lost one so far to the mother's desire for food, but the others are all still kicking.
