I picked up chilobrachys natanicharum sling 4cm legspan (dealer said it's confirmed female) on Terraplaza expo in Budapest, got her home on february 26, she ate twice since that day and started refusing food on march 3 so I presumed she was in premolt, I kept substrate moist but not damp, dropped her water with a pipette on the web every 2-3 days, ventilation was good with many holes on side and top of the enclosure, and 16 days later, this morning I found her death curled in the corner of enclosure.

Right now I'm so pissed off because I wanted that tarantula for a long time, and it is not available in my country, I had to look for it in another country on expo, I paid for it not so cheap and now boom out of the blue she is dead, I'm beating myself up whole day that im bad keeper, but rest of my ts, both adults and slings are fine and thriving, I apologize for the long text, but I had to vent and cooldown somewhere :(

It happens. Happened to me 4 different times in the past few years. Sometimes, we can do everything right and slings will just die. Some just won’t make it. Mother nature works in ways we cannot understand. Don’t beat yourself up over it! All we can do is keep trying…

They have recently dropped in price, likely because of an uptick in successful pairings, so perhaps you will get an other try

usually these kinds of heavy webbers are super easiy to care for, very hardy so if you are certain your conditions were good, it was likely out of your hands

i will say a few drops every 2-3 days sounds like a lot, depending on the size of the enclosure ofc, (edit: belay that i just saw yous was already fairly large shouldnt matter then)

i rarely give my smaller chilobrachys slings any additional drinking water, they can drink from the web every couple weeks when i rehydrate the soil, that seems enough for me

So sorry to hear one your waited on for so long passed so soon! Is there anyway anything could have become contaminated in this one’s enclosure? Any other pets with flea treatment or was this fed at a different time than the others?

Yes, I know it does happen now and then, but it's so unlucky that specie I wanted for so long time die on me out of the blue, nature is just cruel on our spiders and wallets sometimes

They dropped in price that's true but here in Serbia they are unavailable, only way we can get them is by going to expo outside the country, and since Serbia is not part of EU, we have to pay custom fees that are crazy expensive to transfer the T, they even request documents for the spider, and our custom officers on border are devious and rude, but that's another topic.

I don't think I overdid it on moisture side, I gave her one or two small water droplets on web, didn't soak up whole enclosure, but something was wrong with her, last 2-3 days before she passed away I saw her running like crazy over the enclosure, with pedipalps raised up whole time, her death may or may not be my fault, idk, next time I am getting 3-4 slings, this time I was short on my pocket and only bought one.

I think they get everything they need from the prey, hidration wise, but I wanted to be sure.

No, there was nothing that could become contaminated in her enclosure, beside Ts I only have one cat, but he is not allowed in room where i keep tarantulas.
