I will not ask how it has a damaged leg but your tarantula might self amputate the leg if it is truly damaged. It will regenerate the leg over a few molts.

Could you take some photos and post them?

Amazing Arachnids have External Skeletons - Exoskeletons which are Shed / Molted as They Grow Out.
Enabling growth, including New Legs etc. :)
New Legs are usually undersized at first, but should gain size with successive molting.

it can only regrow it if it has autotomized it properly

so not if it's broken/injured, but yes if it has dropped it after the injury occured

It will but in the mean time watch your t, you see that leg leaking cover it in cornflour, use a very soft paintbrush, can be dangerous if your t leaks hemolymph.
Also keep the water dish full especially now, your t will need the extra hydration if it's injured/leaking/removes the leg.
Gl to u n your little floofer.

Depends on how it got broken.

if it fell, it could have internal injuries. Thats more complicated.

i had a g pulchripes sling that molted with a gimp leg. It molted quicker then usual and had a brand new leg.

its still thriving and doing its tarantula business normaly. It was very hungry after the molt that regenerated the new leg.

tarantulas will molt to fix injuries. But if they are dehydrated or sick, things can go bad.

each situation is different. So you will need to keep an eye on it and pick up on clues like feeding/not feeding, water bowl hovering.

pictures would help us more.

Are you saying, the broken part wont regenerate until next molt, or never will?

i just want to make sure i understand that the way i think i do: which is, it wont regenerate the missing part. Only at next molt will the new leg show up.

i remember reading something somewhere the whole leg needs to come off. But maybe im confusing things which is why i need clarification.

Ts have a valve at the base of each leg that gets closed off when the leg is injured, so it's highly unlikely a t would bleed to death from a leg injury......cornflour is great for body injuries, but it's unnecessary for a damaged leg.

Because that valve closes in cases of a leg injury, blood flow will be cut off to the entire leg, which is why the t will amputate right at the base of the leg and not at the point of damage.

I've never heard of a leg not regenerating in time.

Tell that to my brachypelma baumgarteni pip that removed her leg and by the morning had bled out. It is possible or I wouldn't of mentioned it.

She was 3inches dls, I went to bed she was fine sat there being her pipy self , when I got up in the morning she had webbed her front leg right side to the floor pulled it off from the sholder and she was laid out next to it in a damp patch gone. She was in a 15cmx20cmx15cm acrylic viv with 8cm of sub there was no room for a nasty fall there was no food in with her she had removed her leg & bled out.
I still dont understand why she did it. I had raised her from a 1cm sling never had any issues, she had moulted a month before I had just made her a new viv to move her up but she never got to go in it. I don't know if her freshness could of made a difference but it definitely happened and it broke my heart, she was my first ever t and my queen.

Wow, that is horrible. I am so sorry.

I don't have a favorite but if there were one I would cast in gold and want to be buried with...

She has her own no dig bed in the garden I grow sweet peas in.
I am also in talks with a tattoo artist atm to start an arm sleeve Pip and Tetchy will be a part of so I can always have them with me 😊.

Hmmm, did I say impossible?? Cause I'm pretty sure the word I used was unlikely. I was careful with my wording because there are exceptions to every rule.

Also, as you describe, the leg was pulled off, not amputated.....an important distinction.

Sorry for the loss.

I understand but still thought I should say it is possible i have had it happen, more so op was aware then for your benefit.
Even when they remove the leg themselves they can bleed out so it's always good to keep an eye just incase even if it's a 1% chance its still possible when your t has an injured leg they could remove it can go wrong. I would not want anyone else to go through that.

I hope I havent offended you it's just something I have experienced so thought I should share. Yes they are ment to auto close but they don't always, Pip was proof and she wasn't even injured. I assume she must of hurt it after I went to bed but I couldn't see anything on the leg she removed or her and I looked. I think it's more the shock and how much it hurt me and the thought of anyone going through that...I had to make ppl aware. Again sorry if I upset you I didn't mean to.
