So my brazilian jewel has recently emerged from her trap door home and has been out of it for a few days now after spending pretty much all her time inside her little home, so my question is why is she all of a sudden just wanting to chill outside?

1. Let’s see blurry pic that you for some reason thought was an Ansel Adams

2. Expect us to read their ganglia

Hmm, can’t really see inside the enclosure. Wouldn’t know if the soil or humidity is up to par with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There’s no discrete answer any of us can give to you, perhaps the environment is slightly off, or it needs to expand its trap, or it is just out because it had come out.

It will go back into its trap when it’s ready, likely not before that. Until then wait….and make sure your husbandry is dialed in for this more difficult/sensitive species!

My male did this half way through his last molt cycle, so I offered a cork with some larger crevices and within an hour he had started building a new trap door. It may just need a larger area to build a trapdoor.

If you can get some better pictures of the enclosure I can see about helping you get it set up optimally (From my experiences with this species)

Your enclosure need a lot more ventilation though. These guys have the same requirements as Avics just more sensitivity to any changes.

There is a lot of conflicting info online. I kept mine bone dry like Dave from YouTube reccomends. But I still lost a sling. I have sort of gotten the husbandry down at this point and my remaining two are eating and molting regularly. Either myself or @Marcostaco are probably the most available users on here with a decent amount of experience with this species.

If it eats normally, I'd say it's fine. With how moist substrate can be, my females have sat on pretty moist substrate from time to time and they're all fine. In my opinion, the most important thing is ventilation like with any Avicularinae. There shouldn't be any stagnant air in its enclosure.

Here's a thread I made about my female

Larger cork and lots of ventilation holes and you should be fine
