thats sweet ive always wanted to start a collection of mounted bugs
its a great day to start!

speaking of starting..i really need to get off the computer and mount the several dozen specimens i am mounting today.

here's one of my Chalcosoma's
certainly one of my favorite beetles.



is that was a Chalcosoma atlas or caucasus? do you know about these beetle spreeding? I hope to have some of them:D

oops..mine is a ''Caucasus'
yes..i spread all my insects myself!
have done probably 4,000.:D

wow.. that's great! do you have some articles or breeding page of my beetle kind, Xylotrupes gideon?

not any more..
i use to have breeding literature for hundreds of beetles.
i gave much of that to an entomologist friend of mine.:wall:

We have Dynastes tityus in the states which is the same size as Xylotrupes (bigger than the maximum size for some geographic races, smaller than others) and a lot prettier.
X. gideon is a fun beetle though. There's a great, detailed rearing article on gideon in the June 2005 Invertebrates-Magazine. It's a sold out issue but you could probably find a copy online.

I absolutely love it Ted! He's a beauty! Due to the pin in it's right elytra I would assume that you took this one of one of your mounts for the photo? And the Chalcosoma sp. is absolutely beautiful!

I want one and you are making me love scarab beetles even more. I've always thought of these to be extremely impressive and I love them beyond words, but is it possible after looking at these photos to love them even more? :eek:

I truly envy all of you. You're lucky lucky people.

In my country, there's so many kinds of beetles, but I had to touch x. gideon and oryctes rhinoceros only...

I don't pay for them..I get them as compensation for trades of hard to obtain american species.;) :D
