Actually, no, most of us did some research. And I for one have never had any pet mutilate or kill any other pet, especially not for easily preventable reasons that ten seconds on Google would have warned me about. So no, not a hypocrite here, but nice try.
hey, no need to act like your the best keeper in the world here. all im saying is that on this thread i saw people who are judging others before judging themselves.

everyone makes mistakes, so dont talk like you dont make mistakes.
thats all i was getting at, mostly because i had people on here doin the same thing to me when i first got my account, and i dont believe its right.

oh, and "most of us did research"? i wouldnt talk about who does what, because not everyone looks up everything before buying or doing things regarding pets. (even though i believe thats the proper thing to do).

Please do not blame the man who trusted the advice he got in a pet store.
If the animals in a pet store don't look dead the staff do appear to be competent...
And,wonder of wonders, some of them even are.

But some are not.

Can a newbie know which is which...?

He can't.
Don't blame him.
It is not his fault.

I'm on my phone, so pardon my brevity.

We all make mistakes. Some are pretty horrific, like this one. What's important is that we learn from them.

When I got my first tarantula, 15 years ago, I too trusted the pet store advice. I ended up dehydrating it by keeping it on sand. I learned from that experience. If I'd been attacked like some of you are doing here, I may have never gotten another spider. Now, I'm working on my phd in entomology and probably know more than most people here.

We all start somewhere. Just because you were lucky enough not to kill anything when you were inexperienced doesn't mean you can attack those who weren't.

Someone revived an old thread
How are we going to send it back to 2008?

It says here that a bolt of lightning is going to strike the clock tower at precisely 10:04 p.m. next Saturday night! If... If we could somehow harness this lightning... channel it into the flux capacitor... it just might work.

Even though this thread is really old I just wanted to add this:

I used to own a bearded dragon and was always ALWAYS told not to keep beardies together because they can fight and/or eat each other. So this case was just lack of research. There IS a bearded dragon forum that is very informative.

People who have no hearts can just go on with out a blink when their bearded dragon eats the other. People with compassion will realize their mistake and KNOW they are responsible for the death and do more research.

If you had been feeding them properly, maybe he wouldn't have eaten his tank mate. Did you do any reserch before you got a dragon? They need 50 crickets or more a DAY, not a week. You should be turned in for animal neglect.
Um no they don't. Have you kept a beardie? Or done any research on their husbandry?
BTW yes it was neglect on the part of the OP. Do your research from independent sources before purchasing an animal who's health and wellbeing depend on you.

An animal died because of you, if that was a child you'd have it taken away and you'd be in jail now. Just because they are in abundance does not mean they are just an item you bought and not to care what happens to them. If I knew you id never sell an animal to you.

So, all you herpetologists here, so all knowing, have nothing better to say to this person than ridicule and sarcasm?!
You people are great, keep your knowledge and experience to yourselves, and let the less experienced have to learn things the hard way.
Yes, the OP messed up bad, there is no denying that, but you don't have to tear the individual apart. If this scenario were
'common knowledge" then why does the OP need to do any research at all???
Ignorance is a lack of knowledge, stupidity is a refusal to accept it. We are all ignorant, we all have so much more we can learn. You bash Gath for listening to LPS staff, using care sheets, then you say Gath should have "Googled".
What is the purpose of these forums if not to help each other, and pass on our knowledge.
The D-bags are the ones who think they are above everyone else because they know something others don't.

Gath, I am sorry for your loss, I hope you did learn from this experience, and at least feel some remorse for the loss. It is best to get several pieces of information that support each other, rather than one or two; just helps to confirm the validity of the information.

If you read Gath's posts, he didn't feel any remorse. Otherwise, he wouldn't have insisted that it wasn't his fault. In my experience, remorseful people are willing to accept the blame, while those that aren't tend to point the finger in other directions. I absolutely guarantee that the ire that was raised toward the OP would have not occurred if he just took responsibility for it.

Also, this thread is 4 years old. I don't think Gath will ever see this. We're basically bickering with ourselves over nothing.
