I was wondering about the yellow spots and small size.

The P. sp. "mombo" are an actual culture stock that were wild collected in 99' in the southern foothills of the Usambaras in a small town called Mombo (a natural hybrid is not impossible but unlikely since the egg diameter is measurably different versus the other two sp.).

I feed mine (except for the reds) a lot of adult hissers (culls) and have never had to prekill. If I have to post the pic of the assassin holding the hisser by its rostrum again...

St.: Now you've really got me wondering... when you said you had acquired P.sp. "mombo" you were referring to hybrids of P.biguttata and P.rhadamanthus and not the actual collected stock from Mombo??

Hybrid Blaberus and hybrid Platymeris, what a mess. :)

if i'm the only "source" of platymeris for Nikos,... then he never had any mombo's,... what you think mombo's are,... are in fact hybrids

the egg diameter of CB Hybrids is also remarkable smaller.

The egg size diameter of the P.sp."mombo" is nearly double that of the named species which is the opposite of what you are stating on your hybrids.

So were you referring to hybrids or the collected stock?

There is an article on the collecting trip when the actual P.sp."Mombo" were collected. It's mostly about Cetonidae but there's one short paragraph and a BW photo of the Platymeris. It's published by ZOO plzen in Czech, it is in issue 3/2003 and is called "Not Only to See Rose Beetle in Usambar"

I am attaching a photo of the normal P.sp."mombo" coloration. Do you have access to any photos of hybrids with matching color?
I am also attaching the abberant white form, are you aware of any photos of hybrid nymphs which match this?
Do you have any photos of egg comparisons? More importantly, do you have access to any non-hybrid stock?
(I had asked a friend in eastern Europe if there were any new Platymeris species six months ago. He said there weren't any and the only thing left out his way is hybrids. I really hope it doesn't end up that way in the US)
I am asking for photos only because I am very interested in the information and you know as well as I that people can 'say' whatever they want.

On another note, I know you have some captive bred pill millipedes (other inverts ;) ), do you know if the guy you got them from has photographs of egg nests and other life cycle events available for sale for usage?

I realize the leg banding is much wider on mombo than the other two sp. or hybrid and I realize the mombo grow much larger but I am curious if there are color variation similarities with the hybrids -especially the white form.

Hi Vincent,
Your nymphs look like the actual P."mombo" rather than the hybrid so I'm curious what country you're from?

Great! I look forward to checking them out! Are they as impressive and easy to rear as Platymeris?

I am interested in buying photographic documentation. Please send his e-mail unless it no longer is working?
