Amazing collection! Porcellio has to be my favorite genus. So far I’ve got some locally collected A. vulgare and some P. scaber orange koi. The A. vulgare I’ve had for a couple months and I’ve already found mancae in the enclosure, but a couple of the adults and some of the mancae have died off already, I’m thinking that has something to do with them being wild caught. The P. scaber came in the mail earlier this month and seem to be doing ok but aren’t producing yet, hopefully they will soon.

Armadillidium officinalis "Portugal"
"Armadillidium officinalis" do not exist. Normally I would think maybe the vendor mixed up Armadillidium and Armadillo, as "portugal" affinis do exist for Armadillo, but the isopods pictured are most definitely Armadillidium. Do you happen to know if Armadillidium officinalis is just a hobbyist name like so many other of the unidentified species, or might you have received the wrong species?

No idea lol. I suspect it's just a hobby name.

Lots of vendors in Canada refer to different locales of Armadillidium officinalis

Awesome additions!! The yellow zebras are quite attractive, would love to keep them! And the Cubaris are quite nice! I’ve got some Cubaris sp. ‘Pak Chong’ coming next week once it’s cool enough to ship!! I’m super excited about it. I’ve got the enclosure set up this morning with limestone with natural holes and caves in it and real calcium carbonate I dug up from a collapsed cave (got hundreds of pounds of the real cave calcium carbonate). And I’m getting some Porcellio expansus in next week as well! Been super enjoying isopoda!

I have no doubt I will love them so much!! They’re my dream one too! How long have you had them and still wanting to some adorable mancae?
I saw you had the P. expansus ‘Orange’ I think they’re cool people love them but I like the classic black and white much better.

Gotcha, yeah probably! How are you keeping them? No deaths from males? Anything you’ve learned about them from keeping them?
No deaths in my colony yet.

I keep them just like my other large Porcellio (hoffmannseggi, ornatus, haasi): one half of the enclosure dry, the other half ranging from damp to very damp, leaf litter, bark to hide under.

That’s great I know some people struggle with that!! I’ve got plenty of separate hiding places in mine enclosure to help with that right off that bat.

Okay great thanks that’s how I’ve got it set up!
