Captured outside this AM. Standing on a surface, about 3 CM tall. Back legs about 2.5 cm long. It's in a jar in the freezer. Will get pictures once it's preserved.

I’d like to see this thing. I’ve actually been noticing some that are larger than normal in my area.

Should be quite the specimen at that size. If you were in the US it'd potentially be Toxorhynchites.

@The Snark any pics?
Working on it. Trying to find graph paper in a lockdown is just shy of collecting hens teeth. Finally found my ruler hiding in a box of plumbing parts and am going to make my own graph paper tomorrow

Got pictures. Waiting for camera battery to recharge.
Excuses:
-Fine motor skills are GONE. I don't even recognize my own signature.
-Wife made weird settings on camera. Seems to be permanently focus on Jupiter. Rereading manual.
-Glue stick and a pencil are not the instruments of choice for professional lab work.

Measurements
Proboscis 1/4" - 6mm
Body w/o proboscis 5/16" - 8mm
Hind leg extended 5/8+" 18mm
Max leg span 1 1/4" 33mm

That lighting seems awful o.o I get better pics with my phone
The flash was set to some arcane ambient light adjustment mode and the focus was in manual but trying to compensate for something. In frustration I finally set the camera back to factory default mode then found a very helpful web site that explained the 705 esoteric functions the owners manual entirely failed to detail how to set what for which. Nikon: great cameras, insrtruction manuals written and translated by permanent residents of an asylum.

That's a heck of a mosquito. Tell me about the proboscis. Is it straight or curved? From what I'm seeing it looks straight. While I'm not familiar with the taxa in your area we might be able to narrow it down a bit. Size alone should eliminate quite a few genera.

Maybe possibly a Crane Fly? The pictures are broken for me, so i cannot view them, but i see crane flys by me all the time, and they look like giant mosquitos.

This actually really reminds me of a type of Dixid meniscus midge I read about once that was newly discovered but I’m not sure of their size. So that might rule my idea out but at least it’s body shape reminds me of a few Dixidae

Can’t find any Dixidae with such a long proboscis (fairly short for a mosquito but very long for Dixidae)...
