I have two options: buy a ceratogyrus darlingi or a monocentropus balfouri, I like them both, I don't know which one to take

I don't feel like I could, in good conscious, buy just a single M. Balfori - if I were going to add them to my collection, that is. It is the only species achieving documented long term communal success.

C. darlingi, all day, every day. I don't think I have a more underwhelming spider than the M. balfouri - it webs the crap out of it's enclosure, but it stays hidden constantly and won't take down live prey (it will only eat something if it's prekilled). Don't get me wrong, I like all my spiders for what they are and appreciate each of their unique qualities, but this is an easy choice based on my experience with both species. The darlingi has beautiful coloration and markings, has a very unique feature in the horn, eats voraciously, creates intricate web structures but still spends 100% of it's time sitting out on full display, and has grown quickly. I got the balfouri several months before I got the darlingi, and the darlingi is easily triple the size of the balfouri at this point.

buy one balfouri and it will hide a lot and not be the best eater...darlingi is the opposite....darlingi hands down for me.

Darlingi
if you buy a Balfouri don't do a communal. It only works until it doesn't DarlingiTunnel.jpg

Add another vote for the darlingi. Only had my darlingi male for a short while but my experience with him was roughly the exact same as @NMTs, an awesome spider to be sure. Personally my balfouri always ate well until he became a MM, but he was indeed very reclusive.

If you can afford both that would be great. But if I had to choose one, I would recommend the C. darlingi. For me, M. balfouri are quite shy and are very picky/finnicky eaters. Which honestly makes me like them less despite owning so many of them. I do like C. darlingi and they are awesome, but I sold my females away to make space for other things that isn't tarantula related.
