Mold in Isopod Enclosure

Hello all! I recently changed my isopods’ substrate to prevent deaths (which there have been none since I’ve switched!). Over the past few days, I’ve noticed tiny patches of a thin layer of what I believe to be mold, most likely white, around the tank. I’ve increased ventilation to see if that will help, but in my research I’ve also discovered that it’s normal for bio active tanks to experience a bit of mold? My next step is to stop misting and putting in fruits for a bit to see if that also makes a difference. I also included pics of the patches of mold, though they’re hard to see.
Any advice or info would be much appreciated!

Well, white hairy stuff on sub is like potting soil mold. Its due to high levels of moisture.

poor ventilation vs excess water can do this.

however, i find it ironic its to be expected in a “ bio-active” enclosure, when thats what the clean up crew and all the critters in there are for in the first place. I really dislike the term bioactive. Its just a planted enclosure with an ecosystem. Its taken a whole other form that causes issue and is good for selling cocofiber.

of course, if there is not enough decomposing soldiers vs the amount of moisture, it will happen.

it wont kill anyone if thats what youre worried about.

what substrate are you using?

if you squeeze a ball of substrate and get tons of leaking water, thats WAY to much moisture.

unless your goal is to grow a swamp. Then you need A LOT of helpers.

Why put in fruits? Do these need to mold as well? Im very curious. Unless its to provide moisture for the inverts then i get it. It wont stop the mold though. It will make more.

Substrate is Top soil, worm castings, leaf litter, a bit of charcoal, and coco fiber. And no, I am not trying to make a swamp, although that does sound fun

i am definitely trying a swamp one day. But i will use filters and aquarium gear at that point. Or else a cesspool of unwanted activity will happen.

back in the days, with fish, we called those dutch aquariums. Everything was alive. They didnt sell more tarantulas and bigs though.

adding springtails might help, by eating some mold.
