Misting for An OBT

How many times a week should I mist the substrate for my Orange Baboon Tarantula? Should I even mist? Or is a water dish sufficient? I've heard so many different opinions that I am a little confused. Don't OBT's prefer a dry environment? My apologies for asking so many questions. But I want what is best for my tarantula. Doing research online (and believe me I've done a lot in the last 3 weeks) has helped greatly, but as I have said, there are different opinions out there and I just want to narrow it down what is actually best for this particular species. Thanks in advance for all of your help. [/B]

I have read that this species likes it 50-60%, which is easy to do. An open water dish should all you need to provide the ambient humidity. More information can be found here -link-

Or....you can just leave it completely dry with only a water dish for moisture. That is my prefered method. You don't have to worry about mold or mites this way. If you want to raise the humidity (even though there's no need to) just cover part of the top of the enclosure with plastic wrap or foil and use a bigger water dish.

P. Murinus are about as hardy as they get. :)

They also like it bone dry, so there's no need for you to really ever mist the substrate. As suggested by others, just give him/her a water dish, and you're good to go. :D

Not to pick on you specifically, but if you are going to provide an answer, at least do so accurately. The link you provided indicates a humidity range of 50% to 60%.

However, this particular caresheet, like many others, is not entirely accurate. P. murinus actually prefer dry conditions. Though they are hearty and would most likely survive the higher humidities, their natural habitat is on the dry side.

As others have stated, just provide a water dish and everything will be fine.

There's just a water dish in my OBT's cage as well. I might mist it once in a while (once a month or less) just to simulate a little rain fall, but I know it's not necessary in the slightest.

I don't currently have one in my collection, but through what I have seen and read, they should be kept similarly to GBB. Am I correct in that assumption?

I keep my GBBs bone dry just like my OBTs. Difference is that Pterinochilus is a burrower and needs a lot of substrate. My OBTs generally get less anchor points than my GBBs. In my experience, OBts simply don't web that much when they can hide and burrow

Never forget the water dish ;)

I never misted mine. She lived a very long healthy life. Same for my GBBs. Water dish and overfill it occasionally.
