Do any of you know if a decent number of vendors who breed or deal tarantulas will be at Milwaukee Repticon? I'd like to go, but I don't want to make the drive from the city if there are no, or few, T dealers there.

I've no idea offhand, but the website should have a list of vendors, if none jump out as obvious T dealers call a couple up, ask if they do. Might give you an idea

Milwaukee repticon?? But you're in Oregon:bored:

I've never heard of a repticon here in Milwaukee....there's sewerfest in Racine, just south of Milwaukee in a few days.

If you are still in OR, there's a NW Reptile Convention coming up in Portland on August 20th --at which will be plenty of T vendors!

If you're in the area, I'd hope to see ya there

I'm moving from Oregon to Milwaukee on the 14th. Repticon is in Waukesha on the 20th and 21st. I've heard about sewerfest, but won't be there in time for the August show. Their list of vendors appears to be much longer than the Repticon list, so I may just be patient and wait for the November sewerfest.

I'm moving away from Oregon on 14th, so I won't make it :grumpy: If I was going to be in OR, I'd definitely be there.

Sewerfest generally has very little when it comes to ts, so I never bothered, even though I'm like 10 min away...my understanding is that the one in Waukesha isn't much better when it comes to arachnids.

Do you know where in Milwaukee you are moving to? Hit me up when you do get here, I've generally got a sac or two "brewing".

Welcome to the area!

Upper East Side, a couple bkocks from UWM. Once we're settled in, I'll hit you up. I've been avoiding getting any new T's for a while, so I wouldn't have any more to pack for moving, but I could use a couple more after moving

Sounds like it might not be worth the drive to either show. I didn't see any vendors listed for repticon or sewerfest that jumped out as probable T vendors.

The area isn't exactly a hotbed for tarantula activity:(

I have a love/hate relationship with that area...lots of great food, most available at any hour of day or night...lots of great people, too...but also because its around the university, its loud, dirty (two pet peeves of mine) and housing is ungodly expensive for what's usually just mediocre apartments....slum type landlords are everywhere...bad neighborhoods are also close enough that both petty vandalism as well as crime can be an issue, especially car break ins.

The lakefront is right there, too, which is a real treat and it keeps the area cool even on the hottest days, it also helps keep things just a tad warmer in the winter. I suggest taking a walk down McKinley pier especially in the fall;)

I can definitely help you acquire some new ts though;)

I lived down there for years, I ran and never looked back, but I work in that area, so I am down there daily.

Thanks for the advice! The place my wife and I are renting is on the last block before Shorewood, so we're hoping the proximity to Shorewood makes our neighborhood quieter and less prone to crime. We are open to moving after our lease is up, so we'll be exploring the area quite a bit this year.

We took a walk down the pier when we visited in March, and it was a great walk, just very cold for us compared to Oregon. The cold will take some getting used to :D

You'll probably hear from me the last week of August or first week of September. After we get moved in and have our current spiders situated in their enclosures, I'm sure I'll start itching to pick up a couple new T's :)

Its not always cold here...lol, spring on a giant cold water lake does have that effect sometimes. Just the wind blowing in the right directions have dramatic effect on both lake temps and air temps.

Being near shorewood, however, won't give you any benefits from shorewood, even if its across the street (other than the shorewood police pulling you over because you are from across the imaginary line...shorewood cops are bored!). I used to live a block from the border on Oakland ave. Right into shorewood there, is a bar and grill called "Harry's", check it out, great food and atmosphere. The other direction you are almost guaranteed to love Oakland Gyros, its more than just gyros...super good food open exceedingly late....the chicken shish kabob is to die for....just get an extra pita, they give way too much meat:) There's great Italian (Buca's), great Mexican (Jalisco's), great Japanse (Ozumi's) and great Tai as well (EE Sane) all right in the area, along with just about anything else you can think of.

Too many coffee shops, collectivo is my personal favorite though. Ma Fischers is a great place to get a great burger after the bars close and Pizza shuttle will deliver just about any food you could ever ask for at any hour of the night....even shakes and sundaes!

Again, thanks for the advice! I've been to Harry's and Collectivo on previous trips out there, and they're both great. I'm glad to hear there are good Mexican and Thai restaurants! We're already planning to try as many of the restaurants as we can afford, but it's always great to have suggestions from locals. Oakland Gyros may have to be the first place we try. A good hero is one of my favorite meals.

We'll likely move further from the university after our lease ends, so we'll only have to put up with the neighborhood for a year. My wife and I visited in March to find a place to live, and we found a place that's well maintained, but a little pricey. Well worth knowing we have a place to live when we get there. Some of my coworkers live within a few blocks of us and like the area, so I think we'll be happy enough there for a year.

I did not go last year, as I was unimpressed with the vendor list/ schedule. Looking at the pics from last year's show, there was at least one vendor that had a bunch of inverts. The vendor is not on this year's list. One of the pics showed him being interviewed by a local news person, and he was holding a tarantula while two scorpions clung to his shirt. He also put a tarantula on her head. Doesn't really look like any vendors that will be there or Sewerfest are invert specialists, although I would imagine someone will have a spider or two at a table just because.
