They can't climb smooth surfaces. And yeah they are the best feeders for spiders IMHO, unless it's a big T. Red, fast and lively. You can also hatch the ootheca out in a separate bin too, and then all your tiny feeders are already separated...Sorry, hacked up my previous reply before you responded. So to get around the climbing thing, you can put a 3" or so Vaseline barrier around the top of their container. Keeps them from being able to get out.
For climbing roaches or rougher plastic surfaces vaseline works well, and on the outside bottoms of bins to keep ants out.. or table legs. Just don't ever use it in an enclosure with a spider.
They don't stink like crickets either. Last time I did this, I used crickets, and oh man... This time I got runners, dubia, and hissers(more pets than anything) going ahead of time. Good thing too because yes, now it is too cold to get more and nobody here has any.
