Mealworm colony + organic or non-organic oats?

Hey bug people =)

I've been keeping my mealworm colony in organic oats.

It makes sense since pesticides are supposed to kill crawlers....

But...Do people keep their mealworms in non-organic oats and have success? (organic oats are getting pricy...)

I use Red Wheat Bran from Bulk Barn. It's hilariously cheap... 3 heaping scoops into a bag: "That'll be 37 cents please."

That's when I remember that I have no cash, and I'll need to debit this transaction.

Organic is always better. I feed my crickets and roaches organic vegetables. I'm sure though, one could make the argument that the trace amount of pesticides helps build up a tolerance (as many insects build up resistances) and therefore increases the tolerance of the tarantula to pesticides. No you're not going to make a "super" tarantula , but it makes me wonder the effect it would have on the tarantula say being on a strictly organic diet and then switching to prey that had insecticides built up in it.
