don't mean to stray off topic here but what did you do? did you call the gas heater company and get compensation or anything.

No, I was really bummed, but I didn't think about doing that. I doubt it would have helped, the heater wasn't professionally installed. It was one of those wall mounted types, called a glo-warm or something like that. Was about 7 years ago. I had no concrete evidence either, just circumstantial.
I had a friend give me my Golden Gecko a few months later for Christmas, and since I still have her to this day, I think it had to be some sort of chemical fumes burning off. It was a long time until I actually purchased another herp.

Too bad there's no such thing as a medical examiner for arachnids. o_o

I'm very sorry for your loss, though I'm relieved that the ones who survived are doing well! Best of luck that they stay doing well for a long time.
