Greetings arachnophiles! Long time lurker, new poster.

My wife wants to get a display spider for her desk, and NW tarantulas seem like a great option. We have a couple decades of herp and invert keeping experience, just never arachnids.

She wants to see some up close before making a decision. Part of the allure is getting over nervousness of spiders and tarantulas, and some face to face time would be good.

Anyone know if there is a good exotics store within an hour's drive of DC that has a selection of Ts?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, there's the Baltimore Repticon happening this weekend (January 20-21) at the Maryland State Fairground: http://repticon.com/maryland/baltimore/

I don't know about this show, but I know the Repticon and Reptile Expos here in So Cal always have quite a few invert dealers as well, with an assortment of tarantulas, scorpions, centipedes, millipedes, other arachnids, and occasionally even insects. Besides, if you're into herps, there should be plenty of other cool stuff to look at, too!

There's also the Northern Virginia Reptile Expo in February (2/17) at the Prince William County Fairgrounds: http://mdreptilefarm.com/northern-virginia-reptile-expo/

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't been to an exotics show since I moved out east - Tinley NARBC was a regular thing for us for some years. Hopefully I can make it down to Repticon, how lucky it is this weekend.

I looked over the list of vendors, and didn't see anything right away that looked like a T or invert dealer. I would call before buying tickets or planning anything, and see if there are any.
Fang Farm is listed: https://www.fangfarm.com/

Also, it's not uncommon to have some of the reptile dealers offering a selection of tarantulas or other inverts - or sharing their table space with a smaller dealer that isn't on the official vendor list.

Ah, cool. I thought the name might be for snakes, as some of them also have fangs. Thanks.

I wouldn't keep spiders in the work place- You will always have some idiot in the office thats dumb enough to stick their hand down in the cage and get bit. The logistics of it just seem a bit impractical to me. That said- I would say a low-risk new-world species (i.e. A. Hentzi or perhaps one of the Brachy sp.) is in order for this.
