While I empathize with your desire to have a mantis, what it simply boils down to is -- his house, his rules. It really is that simple. Down the road when you get your own place, it will be you who decides what goes and what doesn't. That's just a part of life kiddo

Have you tried just going to a garden supply store and getting one of their cocoons? They're inexpensive.
