Making a Dubai Roach "trap"

I have been told that male dubai cant fly or fly very high, I found it not to be true, at least in my case, at the time my sterilite container did not have air vents/holes, so I would just crack the lid a few inches in the corner. Well to my surprise one night I heard the male roaches, jumping, and fluttering around inside the container, and then out into my room.... Who knows how long they have been escaping, I just happened to be up at the time. I witnessed one 'fly' out and had to pounce on it before it went into my laundry bucket.

I dont stack my egg cartons high at all, they are actually faced down, and my container is a little over a foot tall. I have slits for air holes now and still I worry that they might be able to somehow squeeze through those slits by hanging onto the edge or something.

Now the problem is rounding up some of the straglers, I have found 6 so far that have escaped. 2 of them I found cause they would be climbing on the wall then try to fly towards something on my desk (scared the crap out of me), and the others I have found just running across the floor or when I move my cages aside I would find them squeezed between 2 enclosures. I have no idea if there are any left running around my room or house (shudder) folks would kill me if they knew lol. I am pretty sure they are still in my room as my room is a sauna at times due to all of the heat lamps I have for my Scorpions.

Is there a little roach trap I can make to catch any stragglers if there are any? Like put a egg carton out with a carrot on it or something and check it once a day?

Thanks

For some reason the Dubia males seem to be very advanced escape artists. I found that they can squeeze through very narrow gaps and seem determined to do so. Maybe check your enclosures, smear vaseline on the top 2 inches and cover the ventilation areas with mesh. Traps have not really worked for me, but you can try putting food in a container with a ramp leading up to it and vaseline smeared on the top 2inches to keep them in. Just check it regularly, they seem to dehydrate quickly outside of their cozy containers.

yeah I will try something like that...

the holes are small, like I tried to 'force' a adult male through one and it didnt work (no he didnt die!), BUT last night I heard rustling again and I saw a 2 inch nymph running around! I am guessing its when I had it open and I was shaking the toilet paper roll he mighta flung out, I am having such bad luck :/

I might just buy a taller sterilite container and do the whole mesh thing, fiance would murder me if when we got our house and she saw them running around.

I'd try a cricket trap, only larger to make up for the size of the roaches. It's essentially a crawdad trap made out of a plastic bottle with some bait. I'd toss a female you knew for a fact was non-gravid inside with some food which you know they like over something else, whatever it may be. The smell of both should lure them into the trap, especially if you try making a scent trail with the female to the traps so the males might follow it. Just an idea.

i bought an entirely new sterilite container, same size, i wanted just a lid but they dont sell invididuals, this time I used mesh as my vent, so if there are any left there wont be anymore after i find them :D

argh, I have found at least 4 more males in the last week in my room, one this morning on my shower towel that was besides my bed!

I went a while without seeing one and then they started showing up again, and I cant assume it was when they possibly 'escaped' when I had larger holes in the in the old sterlite lid.

i have ZERO idea how they are getting out, I got a new plastic lid and made a mesh screen cover, not even a nymph could get through there, the only other container they are in is in my emperor scorpion enclosure, I throw the ones I find in there and I do see some of them get gobbled up, but still..

I have even tried making a trap IE a carrot and cracker inside a deli cup with a ramp leading up into it, a small enough hole in the lid to get in, but not enough for it to climb out since he will fall in.

should I just resort to those sticky floor traps?
