LP sling growth rate

Hey all,

So I’ve had my L. parahybana sling for about a month now, and it still hasn’t molted. Currently around .25in and eats regularly. I keep it in the mid 70’s, and yet we’re still not getting a molt. I’ve heard from friends that keep LPs that their slings grew crazy fast, so I just wanted to get some opinions on how my small yet eventual giant is doing!

It can vary. Different slings from the same sac, kept in the same conditions, can vary in how often they moult. I know it's frustrating to not receive a definitive answer, but it's the truth.

I've got an LP sling that has moulted twice in the four months I've had it. It's put on more size than other slings in the same time frame and I expect it'll moult again by the end of this year. Just be patient, feed it until it refuses food, then let it moult when its ready to.

Edited to add: When people say slings grow 'crazy fast', then mean in comparison to other species of tarantula. Crazy fast in tarantula terms is still very slow in comparison to the growth rate of a puppy, for example.

@Minty is quite correct regarding the increase in size. The “crazy fast” growth rate is not necessarily the number of molts, but the size increase after each molt. This is where the LP shines. My latest LP sling I obtained as a freebie at about 1/2” approximately eight months ago, it’s hitting around 2” currently, and in pre-molt.

It varies tremendously based on many different factors. Temperature, feeding frequency, genetics, etc. From what I've seen, both the size and growth rates of species in this genus are heavily exaggerated. Be patient! It may take a while, but the satisfaction of watching it grow over time will be worth it.

It took mine 6 weeks to moult when I got it as a 1cm sling, just over a year ago. I remember waiting those weeks feeling just the same as you.

Then (excuse the messy substrate, wasn't like that for long)

I got mine about a month ago and it molted within the last week. When I bought it I was told it molted within the past month and 1/2. I keep mine around 72 degrees and feed every 3-4 days when not in premolt.

Mine grows painfully slowly. I keep my T room pretty warm and feed it as often as it will eat but it is afraid of everything and is pretty unenthusiastic about life.
