My male kicked the bucket, so I want to ID it so I can label my female. Anyone know a taxonomist I could send it to?

Thanks,
Mike

Lorenzo Prendini at the AMNH is the Opistophthalmus expert, you could send it to him for an ID.

What about Jonathon Lemming (spelling)? Isnt he also in the know about "O" species as well?

I'll see what Lorenzo can do first. I don't know about shipping to Africa..

@ Brian: Leeming :)
But Prendini is also a very knowledgeable man. Sorry for you loss.

I can safely say the only person who can put a proper id on it is Lorenzo. I work with Lorenzo and was just in South Africa collecting with, and there is nobody in the world that knows these animals better.

His address is
Dr. Lorenzo Prendini
Division of Invertebrate Zoology
American Museum of Natural History
79th St. @ Central Park West
New York, NY. 10024-5192
USA

I am sure he would be happy to identify the specimen in exchange for the preserved male.

Definitely, Dr Prendini has been loaned the majority of the Opistophthalmus collection from the BMNH, no one will know the structure of this genus better then him or have access to more material.

So you don't think he'd mine if I just sent a box to him? Rather wait for him to reply to my email.

BTW, find anything intersting in Africa?

Go ahead and send it to him or you can address it to me and I will pass it on. He is still in Africa for a few weeks, so email won't get answered quickly and it will be early April before an id can be given.

We go LOTS of scorpions and a few new species....
