CRICKETS ARE FAST… I fed my spiders…and am watching videos and a cricket just calmly walked past me, got comfortable and watched me go get something to catch it. I just spent 20 minutes trying to to catch it wondering if it is the only one that got out.

I had such an experience with a red runner roach, got them all and dumped them in a viv with ventilation slots at the top, turn on tv and the lights off. In the corner of my eye I see something move on the floor. Caught the little bugger immediately. Inspect the viv and it was crazy, a huge male was acting like a bridge between a twig and the lid, they crawled on top of each other like in dayz.
Another day I was trying to get one out to feed it to the spider and fumbled. Roach immediately disappeared into thin air. For some reason two days later it decided to show up in my bedroom. Caught it and fed it to the spider. I never had as much fear of being infested as in those two days!! I am phasing out the red runners and have a small dubia colony going now, those are supposed to not be able to procreate so easily. In the long run I want to go with locust, those are definitely not a big deal should they break out.

It's even more fun when crickets get out and get inside the wall or behind the cabinets. Then they mock you by chirping all night, smugly taunting you.

I like it when my crickets are making noise. One,it means they are ready to breed, two, their housing requirements in term of heat is well suited.

better to have run away crickets then runaway cockroaches…

crickets can be very fast. Especialy the small ones. You can always do prekill too. Some slings can get shocked by quick crickets, especialy when they are a tad too big.

at the moment i dont have crickets anymore. No one is eating and i have mealworms in the fridge. A few superworms in some wheat bran.

i could litteraly buy no feeders until spring at this point. Winter has its advantages for those of us who don’t have high tech gear.

I feel this! Hate crickets for that reason. Worse is the adults getting loose and hiding in a crack in the wall or under the wall borders and having to hear them for weeks on end during the night. Drives us insane.

Nah bro we have 2 types over here the normal silent brown ones and banded ones the normal ones are getting phased out though it's a nightmare trying to keep them alive Gryllodes sigillatus is the banded we have and Gryllus assimilis is the silent ones.

Banded are the worst when you need to fish them out of a fasting tarantula's enclosure. For now, it's no longer an issue. My hamorii and albopilosus both hit like trucks, so no cricket gets wasted.

Yes, they can be a pain to catch if they escape. What I sometimes do prior to feeding is chill them in the fridge for 10 minutes. Numbs and slows them down a great deal.

Banded crickets are the hardiest, easiest crickets on the planet to keep alive....here the banded are known as silent crickets.....but good to know, thanks for the info

Yeah I only go for the banded ones now, the other ones are lucky to last a week.

There is one somewhere in my kitchen right now. It chirps just enough to be annoying but stops whenever I get close so I can't find it
