I have only ever been bitten by our largest local species a large (for us) 6cm orange centipede that hides under slabs of concrete that are as thick as the 3 cm stone red centipedes but with more body segments, we also get those really thin orange ones that get to 7 cm that are about 2-3 mm thick.

Anyway, the bite on my middle finger left a small purple bruise at the site of the puncture wound, the pain was excruciating for 2-3 hrs and slightly swollen for the rest of that day - much worse than a bee or wasp sting.

I had no idea how much it hurts thats why I attempted to pick it up by hand.

I'm from the UK where we rarely get big beasties but have a few that can give ya a good nip. :D
