No I do not believe they’re endangered. I just don’t understand why people would rather take from the wild when they’re captive bred, readily available, and inexpensive. It’s like people just want to destroy our environment…I'm not condoning collection from the wild, but A. chalcodes is not endangered at this point. However, there's little doubt in my mind that their conservation status will change at some point in the future.
I agree 100% and yes in the state of Arizona you do need a valid state hunting license to collect any wildlife. Reptile and amphibian regulations are updated yearly containing species you can collect and keep, species entirely off limits, and the number of specimens allowed to collect. It is illegal to SELL any indigenous species, snakes, lizards, frogs, toads but never are any invertebrate mentioned. A shame that inverts get entirely overlooked as important to our environment. It's completely unethical to field collect Aphonopelma chalcodes unless it's to take 1 or 2 mature males to pair with a captive female/s then releasing the males if they survive the pairing.
Reading through Arizona state regulations on wildlife is exhausting. It covers a lot but I cannot find anything on arachnids or I missed it.
What I did pull away with is a person must have an Arizona hunting or fishing license to collect any wildlife not endangered or protected from collecting.
I don't know but here is a link to read over it.
