Hi this might be a dumb question but I recently got a moisture dependent species and want to set it up bioactive. I have a oak in my back yard but I recently purchased my house about 18 months ago. I don't know if the previous owner ever sprayed but she was an avid gardener so there is a possibility. Does anyone know if I should be concerned with pesticides using the oak leaves as litter. It for sure hasn't had anything sprayed in the yard or trees for 18 months. I know I could just go collect somewhere else but if there is no chance it could be harmful it would be nice to collect what I need in my backyard. Thanks

That's probably what I'll do. You're right. Thanks for the reply!
a wildlife reserve or parc, that is local and that you know isn’t sprayed, is a good place to harvest leaves. Especialy if its a forest that is not filled with spruce or fir. These get sprayed in places that get a lot of wild fires, or wood harvest. Because of the eastern budworm.

even someones local oak would be okay, if they don’t use pesticide on the grass. You could even prune a few clean branches, and let them dry at home. That avoids certain parasites that lay eggs in the leaves or branches.
