We have seen for years people talk about large-growing tarantulas with some rumored large leg spans, but few post pics with measurements. So, let's fix this once and for all with this thread. Here are the rules to post:
1) ANY tarantula pic posted must include some measurement reference in the pic (i.e. ruler, measurement board, dollar bill, etc.)
2) Pics posted must include genus and species or morph/form.
3) Ideally, pics need to identify male or female.
4) Listed below are the genera known to have tarantulas obtain 8"+ leg spans. Within this list, some easily get 8", so see the suggested size requirements to post to this thread for that genus:
Theraphosa: anything 10.5" or more.
Lasiodora: anything 9.5" or more.
Poecilotheria: anything 9" or more.
Xenesthis: anything 8.5" or more.
Pamphobeteus: anything 8" or more.
Hysterocrates: anything 8" or more.
Acanthoscurria: anything 8" or more.
Chilobrachys: anything 8" or more.
Grammostola: anything 8" or more.
Lampropelma: anything 8" or more.
Lasiodorides: anything 8" or more.
Megaphobema: anything 8" or more.
Omothymus: anything 8" or more.
Phoneyusa: anything 8" or more.
Phormictopus: anything 8" or more.
Phormingochilus: anything 8" or more.
Selencosmia: anything 8" or more.
Pelinobius muticus "King Baboon": anything 8" or more.
Sericopelma: anything 8" or more.
5) If a genus is not listed above, and you have a tarantula over 8" in leg span, post the pic with its genus and species with appropriate measurement reference in the pic.
6) Leg span is measured using the DLS - diagonal leg span method (left front leg to the right back leg, or the right front leg to the left back leg).
7) We want to keep this thread about the largest tarantulas in the hobby with PROOF by having some sort of universally recognized measurement item in the pic, so don't post anything other that that.
8) Pics can be molts or live.
