Alright, heres a question for you scorpion-heads I've been wondering about-

What's the largest species of scorpion in the western hemisphere? It seems that all the biger scorpions I can think of are all old-worlders, Heterometrus, Pandinus, Hadogenes etc.

The biggest new-worlder I can think of would be Hadrurus arizonensis, but surely in the forests of South America there lurks something bigger than that! Anyone?

Yes, but both of those are old world, I believe.

Wade,

You are probably correct. Hadrurus arizonensis can get close to approaching 6 inches(145mm) in length. The largest Tityus spp. in South America are on par with the largest Centruroides spp. in North and Central America with a maximun length around 5 inches(120mm) in length. Some Diplocentrids in Central America are in the 4+ inch range. Opistocanthus are on the large side too but I'm pretty sure they are smaller that Hadrurus.

Thanks John,

It's interesting, it seems that the new world has the biggest spiders as all the contenders for "worlds biggest" are Central and South American, while the Old World has the biggest scorpions.

Completely meaningless, but interesting nonetheless!
