What do you think is the largest Asian Tarantula.... i have a juvy Cyriopagopus schioedtei, and i heard that they can grow about 25cm....
Are there other contenders that you might suggest? i search'd and Cyriopagopus sp. "Sulawesi Black" and Lampropelma sp. "Borneo Black"...
are there other more that you might suggest?
i mean is Legspan+ weight

THis is all I could come up with... I know more about New world Ts & African Ts

P Ornata is the Largest 7-10.5"+ Rob C has a big female 10" inches ..top legspan ..not so much on mass
Pokies & Lampropelma / Cyriopagopus sp ...are the biggest genus reaching 7-10"
your correct about these spiders !!!!
Some Haplos get 9" inches they would win or be very high up in the Asian T bulk department but shorter legspan the P ornata.. Lamp Borneo black
H. schmdti 8-9"
H. hainanum 8-9" (deep burrower)

New worlders such as..... Goliath birdeater & pinkfoot / Lasiodora parahybana/Klugi ... still crush all these in the weight / Mass department :mask:

L. sp. Borneo black isn't that large, get to about 7.5". L. violeceopes and C. sp. Sulawesi black (gray) get to much larger leg spans. C. sp. Sumatran tiger gets to about 8.5" and is bulky.

Phlogius sp. Aussie goliath might be the largest OWer though it's not known entirely how big they get. Leg spans of 10-11" but not as bulky as Theraphosas or Lasiodoras.

There are a TON of threads on this, some good reads!

Large= LS+ Mass i had a p.rufiliata but shes not that large, they are much more of the leggy thing ^_^
I think asian giants are more of the arboreal ones....
i think i should go with Cyriopagopus....
but what do you think is the largest Cyriopagopus in record? are there other asian t's than can beat them?

Asian Ts are usually less massive than their NW cousins because they are usually less stocky and more leggier.

Well KBs are indeed stockier than many Asian Ts and may well be among the largest OW spiders in terms of mass. Most Asian Ts just have long legs and small abdomens and thus most NW Ts with a LS of 5-6" are just as heavy or heavier than many 7-8" Asian Ts...

Any info on the Hysterocrates hercules? I know it is still much smaller than a T. blondi but people keep mentioning it as a contender of largest OW T?

Do you have any documentation or threads you could point me to with actual cases (ie, not anecdotal) of 10"+ Phlogius? I'm certainly not being confrontational, but I've yet to see one bigger than 7-8", including the famous ones with the guy holding that beast. Don't get me wrong, it's big, but it ain't ten inches :)

Again, I've heard of monster kings (I miss calling it C. crawshayi :( ), but I've seen literally hundreds and I've yet to see anything more than a hair over 8 inches. They look massive because of their bulk, but I've always doubted they regularly get more than 7.5 inches.

I was thinking it might be between the Sulawesi black and the P. rufilata as far as leg length go. You might throw the P. ornata in there too.
My understanding was always P. rufilata is the biggest arboreal in terms of legspan and therefore the biggest old worlder and the biggest Asian. Ornata seems a bit bulkier, and miranda would be a close third for the genus. In terms of overall bulk, I've never seen a Sulawsesi black and I don't know much about them, but I'd throw in some of the Haplopelma species, which can push 10", as well as the lighter bodied yet still huge Cyriopagopus.

The only known, proven H. hercules is apparenlty 7" or so in legspan, which means I'm guessing it's mythical size and status can mostly be chalked up to big fish stories. H. scepticus, on the other hand, can push past 9". There are species of Phoneyusa (also from Africa) that apparently rival Theraphosa; I've actually been discussing it on another forum.

I know there are a million topics like this, but hey, I've got a soft spot for big spiders :)

Nope, I do not. I'm going on what Steve Nunn has said. He has an enormous and old P. crassipes that is 8"+ and a similarly sized young Aussie goliath. It is assumed that the goliath has not stopped growing and should it reach old age, would likely be pushing impressive sizes. I think there is a single Aussie goliath preserved (like the H. hercules) that is 10" or so.

Edit: A link with some info

See below. :ninja:
I disagree with Anastasia on this, and while I certainly don't want to get into arguments with anyone over how large a specific species gets, I've seen a female that's easily 7", and I tend to understate size. They seem to be a slower growing pokie, or it may be that they don't get as large as often, but 6 inches isn't the maximum as far as I'm concerned.

Now that said, I can't find any documentation of the maximum size, so I'll readily admit that I may be wrong, and I can't prove I'm right until someone posts pictures. :)

Good read! Steve Nunn is a very knowledgeable guy; I really hope someone posts a picture of one of those beasts, and as of now it's on my xmas list :)

I'm with you, it's pretty much my favorite topic in regards to Ts: "Ginormous" and "Asians/OW".

Here's a bit more info, pics seem to have disappeared. 1st page is pretty much just bickering :/

Oh yeah, cuz I love pimpin' these pics, you can see Steve's big crassipes girl (nothing for scale though)

Lastly, just cuz

You are the first that I have seen say P. miranda gets huge, this is why I question it. A lone 7" female shouldn't set the bar on average adult size. I agree that arguments normally lead to nothing but polite disagreements can be good reads, just read old threads. :D - Chad

I feel this thread could be talking just as much about who dated the hottest girl in high school as 'whats the largest biggest heaviest longest spider'. Whatever happened to backing up your posts? Having some real knowledge behind what you say? Or is this hobby literally doomed to: "I seen one 'dis' big".
