Additional macro lens test by my big girl, P. irminia "Irma", who very kindly came up to pose at the top of her tree.

She was totally chill and sat there while I opened the top of her enclosure and took photos, like the prima donna she is. She let me know when she was done by halfway hiding behind one knee. ♥

Looking a little bow-legged there sweetie...

What clip on micro lens did you get if I may ask? Great pics!!
Some reasonably inexpensive one with good reviews on Amazon 😅 it was a gift and I'm not sure I have the exact link or brand info anymore... If I find the brand/model info I'll post it!

Confirmed: P. irminia "Spunk" is officially growing like a weed 😅
PXL_20230207_145529872.jpg

Also has progressed to taking out the trash like a teenager i.e. not bothering to bring it all the way to the curb 🙄

I keep thinking this girl is in pre-molt -- big booty, slippery feet, webbed everything shut at ground level but left a little exit up at the top of her tube... But then she randomly shows up poised at the top of her tree, waiting for a cricket to fall from the sky. 🤷

P. irminia "Irma". Sorry sweetie, you ate them all. I gotta go get more tomorrow.

How did you keep your purpurea as a sling? I have heard they are a little more advanced to keep than other Avics.

Dry sub, top and bottom vents, water dish. I have a cheap glass 10mL pipette I use to water my T's, and I made the vent holes big enough that I can drip water in the top or sides with the pipette to get a few drops into the webbing... At least, through the ones it hasn't webbed over 🙄

I've never seen it visit the water dish, but I have witnessed it drinking from the web/walls. The water dish does give me a basic visual on how dry the air is (in terms of how fast it evaporates) and any excessive overflow tends to dry up pretty fast because of the generous ventilation.

I'm not sure if it was 2i or 3i when I got it -- legspan was about 3/4 inch. This was my first T and I did a lot wrong the first few weeks I had it, but I got the ventilation right at least, and corrected the other mistakes pretty quickly. Like ditching the heat pad, and letting the sub dry out properly.

Obviously only one data point, but I have found that if I am paying attention to its behavior and reading up on here, it doesn't seem terribly finicky? I guess if T keeping teaches patience, this is the case that teaches an odd combo of patience and vigilance. I've learned to watch for anything weird, and monitor/ask/read up, but basically never do ANYTHING in a "panic" other than make sure it has a drop of drinking water.

Addendum: A. purpurea has definitely had a blast webbing up the place, with a nice tube and two different hammocks.

And for some reason decided that after being too fat for photos it still needed like two more crickets so uh... Definitely needs that molt lol

Yours webbed above the water dish, too..Not directly into it, like my versi, but I’m wondering if that is for humidity..?

Could be, could also be logistics of where I placed the water dish vs where I put the cork bark and leaves. Just in terms of anchor points, that's the best spot to set up.

Before the sling moved in:

Figuring out where it wanted to web up the place -- first try was the front right corner actually, exactly opposite the water dish:

After that, it found the good leaf, which happened to be over the dish:

This is how I have been keeping all my Avics. They are all currently .5-.75

I’m relatively new to keeping Avics. I was never really interested in keeping them up until now and although I have raised some M6 from sling to adult, I still feel wholly unprepared
