Im thinking of getting a sub adult female l.parahybana, but ive heard they have really bad urticating hairs. Ive suffered from my b.boehmeis hairs before and had been itching for a week. My other brachys hairs doesnt bother me as much. Also my n.chromatus doesnt affect me as much as b.boehmeis.

How bad is l.parahybanas urticating hairs?
And how often do they kick hairs? My b.boehmei kicks hairs from a slight disturbance of its enclosure(feeding/moving enclosure). Ive sold it and wont ever get one lol :D

Just wanna know if l.parahybahas urticating hairs are worse. Thanks

They're pretty bad, and they kick very often. They have the same attitude as the A. genic where they try to eat anything that moves, but the difference is that the genic will just walk away when it realizes it's not food. The LP will start kicking hairs at it.

Is there by chance thats it varies from lp to lp? Or every lp u had/have kicks hairs often?

Well, thats good. I really wanna get an lp, but cant have lp hairs all over my room. Thanks :D
Don't really remember a specific time she kicked at me either. I currently own two Lasiodora difficilus, two juvies, both are more interested in hiding then kicking, but will throw a threat posture

Not very bad at all ime. I had a 4.5" for a while before selling it. Never got a bad reaction at all.

@Moakmeister you own a Lasiodora?
Didn't she ever even kick though?

Definitely does, each specimen is different. My 5 L.parahybana of various sizes have never kicked at me, not even once. My 5 L.difficilis are the same, they would sooner threat pose IMO.

B.boehmei on the other hand is a different story, they kick at the slightest disturbance.

Heres some of my Lasiodoras. Check out their abdomens, not a scratch.

Uhmm one more question.. How does a tarantula on premolt loses hairs on its abdomen? Does it just fall off or do they kick it around for deterance knowing theyll be vulnerable at these times?

My two adult females don't kick nearly as often as many of my Brachypelma spp. Their setae aren't even half as bad as B. boehmei, at least to me. But my two B. boehmei's kick at every slight disturbance, so there's that.

I think their reputation is similar to T. stirmi - they have a reputation for terrible setae simply because they have so much of it. To me, the worst setae in the hobby come from Euathlus spp., but since they're dwarves, they just don't have much to lay down. Just a thought.

Thanks. Thats good to know. I guess i developed a phobia coz my b.boehmei got me BAD, twice. I used to cover its enclosure with cloth whenever i do stuff near its enclosure. And still got me. So i got rid of it lol just wanted to make sure lps arent as bad. Thanks for all the replies

It most certainly does vary...none of my Lasiodoras have ever had bald spots...not sure I have seen any of them kick much...but some can be pretty bad.
Well, thats good. I really wanna get an lp
Lmao...why?:rofl: Literally every single large south American terrestrial looks 100, no 500 times better...and all share the growth, appetite and size.

I'm guessing you bought into all the hype sellers create....they are all lying. This is literally the most given away species for a reason...get a sling and don't pay more than $5 for it....they are one of the most valueless tarantulas on the planet. Lasiodora=boring looking...if they didn't have size, they'd have nothing. And despite what you hear, their size is 7-8", so yes big, but its nothing special, certainly not the 10" sellers would like you to believe....there's probably 100 species that get as large and have the same growth and appetite but don't look boring.

Boehmei are particularly bad...their common name, fire leg, isn't a reference to their color, its a reference to how the hairs feel.

Had a gyspy cola episode with one of them did you? ;) Can't see another reason why you hate them so much.

Consider also that reactions due to contact with their setae is always different person to person.

In general genus Theraphosa are viewed as the worst, but here I've heard of people sensible to genus Nhandhu, 'genics', even 'avics'...

My adult female has never kicked. She looks great, eats everything I put in front of her and is on display 100% of the time.

I don't hate them, I just think they are really really really super duper over-hyped.

I mean if I were starting out and bought into this false hype and got my lp...then some months later realized I could have had a geniculata, for example...I'd be pissed looking at my boring greyish t.

I mean, c'mon...Lasiodora...
Versus anything else...

I mean this genic is still a wee one and it already looks better than any photoshopped LP could dream of.

Even the bronzed look of a P. cancerides looks better...and don't get me started on the MMs

I'm just offering the op choices that aren't over-hyped.:D

LPs are fine, as long as you have other, prettier ts, to also look at.
