Killing a Lizard..bad a idea

Yup! People get more angry when I tell them brown recluses don’t live in California etc. though.

Or tell them a brown recluse bite is unlikely to kill them - or rot a limb off

Yeah as a resident of Oklahoma, I can tell you that the opinions of snakes here is just about as bad. Most people take on the attitude of, "guilty until proven dead."
I have several friends and coworkers that I just CANNOT convince that they have a significantly higher chance of getting into a fatal car accident than running into and getting bit by any of our venomous snakes...
Pretty much same story with the two species of potentially dangerous spiders we have here, Brown Recluse and Black Widow. Heck, I've been bitten by Brown Recluse before and it wasn't pleasant, but I never even had to see a doctor. It turned purple and looked gross, but it healed up in a week or two.
