I remember my Mom bought me a G rosea when I was 14. I put it in a 10 gallon tank with like 1" of substrate. It lost a leg during a molt, and I gave it to my local shop hoping they'd know what to do. Internet was around but they had super limited resources on tarantula husbandry at the time. I didnt have a smart phone or a fast internet connection lol.
I grew up being interested by true spiders around the house. I would hold orb weavers, throw ants in garden spider webs. Kind of messed up now that I think about it lol
I bought a book from a catalouge called "Tarantulas of the World" or something like that. Id just stare at the pictures dreaming I could own a Cobalt Blue or Singapore Blue one day.
Fast forward years, and now I own most of those T's in that book. I hope I can find a female O violacepes though. I blew my opportunity when I had it, I forget what T i bought instead.
My family said, "what are you going to do when you meet a nice girl and want to settle down?"
My response, "Keep the spiders."
