It all depends. If you look at my guide in the beginning of the thread, I drill 12 air holes per side on each enclosure. Some may say it's overkill, but I think it's just right.

I read that too much ventilation makes it a challenge to maintain humidity for humidity based species. I know Avics aren't humidity dependant, but other species are.
I understand less ventilation = stagnat air but does that also affect humidity? Sorry if its a dumb question, but trying to ask questions as I have the audience of more experienced people commenting.

Re read my last post, I added context around ventilation.

Humidity is NOT something you should even be concerned about....this focus is old, dated info that's now understood as the root cause of what was once known as SADS (sudden Avic death syndrome)......just keep the enclosures predominantly dry and your avics will do much better with less worry and effort on your part.

Ha you funny! I'm gonna cut that bad boy just I half, clean it and use it again. Cork bark is hard to come by here in the south without paying an arm, a leg and a toe. Lmao

I go to beaches in the heat of summer and collect PILES of driftwood.....I use this....it looks more natural (cause it is), it's lighter and it's free and there's so much of it to choose from you can always find what you're looking for....JME

I'm in northern alabama, not many beaches around me, but I'm willing to road trip!

Alabama is loaded with lakes and rivers.....you don't need an actual beach....just a sandy or gravel shoreline....gotta be some good spots on the coosa

I mostly collect on lake Michigan out of convenience.

I do like a good kayaking trip down some of the rivers around here!
What's your suggestion for cleaning the wood/ bark? Oven or?

Alabama has some resilient bugs, which has been a deterrent from me collecting stuff from around me. I'll def start looking more!

Everywhere has bugs...lol.....I collect in summer because the beach is blazing hot....that natural high heat is a bug deterrent.....anything there can usually just be removed by banging it on concrete or a rock....but there are very few bugs I'd actually be worried about....ants being the primary one.

now i know i havent been hoarding all this driftwood for nothing.

i basicaly just go to the ocean for driftwood and rocks. Its math: it needs to be just the right weight so i can drive back.

Whomever worries about humidity for Avicularia is killing them.

Less holes- bad
More holes- good

Misting regularly- bad, they aren’t plants
