I’ve heard these are a big step up from what I’ve kept by this point. My current plan is to leave it in its small enclosure until it molts, and to keep it nice and humid with a big water dish that I’ll overflow each time I fill it. I’ve put springtails in there too, to ward off mold. So once I move it, what substrate should I use? I’ve always used jungle mix for my P. imperator, which also needs lots of moisture, and it’s never molded. So I assume it’s good for the apophysis?

Theraphosa apophysis doesn’t have any special substrate requirements. Just keep it damp and it will be fine. All three Theraphosa species have the same care requirements.

Never overflow water dish on a schedule, that’s an easy way to lead to a swamp. Keep moisture in substrate by adding it only when it’s needed. Too much moisture too often is worse for tarantulas than too little and drying partially.

I keep my Theraphosas on 100% eco earth with zero issues. They are not hard to keep despite what you heard they require moist dirt with plenty of ventilation, easy right? Dont stress out they are super easy to care for but the apophysis makes me itch more than my stirmi when doing maintenance on enclosure. Relax bud you got this!!!!

Don’t stress moisture requirements it’s not complicated. Ventilation is much more important than a muggy humid environment. Nw terrestrial with damp sub that’s it
