I feel sort of silly posting this pic because all of the millipedes of this species have died on me(the Orange legged one) but I wanted to share him any way. Also I was trying to figure out the clear picture thing so my posts in the future will be better.

They (the orange legged ones) were probably from Tanzania, as almost all my millipedes are. Yes, I feel you eyeing my "flat" millipedes.;P
No really, I don't seem to have the same luck with these as I do other millipedes. I have never had them reproduce for me and they die notoriously fast. I have heard several explanations for this. :
one, they cannot survive the secretions put out by regular "giant" millipedes. Even on a small scale.
two, the males die soon after mating. This may well be true.
three, proper nutrients may not be being given. Perhaps they need more protine like big dead bugs or meat. Or I could be full of it.

Here is another shot of the millipede eggs much more in focus:D
I know people always ask what they look like so I wanted to share. Please remember that I had to be completly upside down with a light in one hand and the camera in the other.
They were (are)1 to 2 mm in size and a light cream color. There is a, I will assume parent, millipede a top them but I can't tell what kind. A few species in the tank have pink legs. I am hoping for "pied" millipede babies.

Yes, my camera dose have a flash which most often makes any picture through glass one giant reflection of a flash.
Steven, this is the first time I have seen eggs with my own eyes. Like most people I thought that they would always be encased in fecal pellets. Not easy to see against all that substrate. But since I have started that tank I have seen 3 to 6 baby millipedes curled against the bottom of the glass almost every day :D .
Breeding they are! But, I do not know how well they would fair on a trip overseas :rolleyes:. When I tried to order some millipedes from Kretuchundfleuch they had all but died on arrival.
Seems like 40 to 50 eggs though :) .

Steven,
Yes, I did E-mail with Mathias lots of times. The list of millipedes was I believe:
Zebra millipedes
The tan Pillbugs you see in my photos
Red millipedes
there were more if I can find the list I'll tell you the whole thing.

Oh yea,
there were beautiful velvet millipedes. All dead but nice. I do believe they were the kind I took the pic of and posted today. A very weird coincidence.
When you say rare names you are not kidding. Even bablefish translation is really funny: More red millipede, more larger brown millipede and so on.:)

Yes I figured that as well but in english it is still a double positive,
more larger is sort of weird, or giant larger?:?

maybe more has more than one meaning
more= giant
more=large
so that would make it large peruvian giant scolopendra
what you think? lots of words have two meanings in english or american :D

Steven,
With my little German dictionary I figured:
spinnentausendfüsser is "spider millipede" but perhaps it means their aborial or like the Brown tanzanian pink legs, the legs spread to the sides more and are a little longer. Roter is red.
Puderzuckertausendfüsser is powder sugar millipede, I can't imagine what it means the milli looks like.
Zebratausendfüsser is Zebra millipede. Mathias sent me some(dead) they were black and white yellow striped, with very red legs.
Kupfertausendfüsser is copper millipedes I think I have a lot of these little guys.
Längsgestreifter spinnentausendfüsser is Long striped spider millipede.
I hope this helped Steven
I still can't figure a lot of them myself.:?
