Unfortunately if the plant has had pesticide treatment, and most have in the garden centre, also by the plant wholesaler, prior to arriving at the garden centre, the pesticides will be in the root system and leaves and could take years for the plant to " purge" itself.
And this is where the rot sets in. Potentially a perfect storm scenario.
I registered a pesticide I and associates invented with the USDA and other agencies. It took 6 months and around $20,000. The exact specific chemicals and processes the chemicals were derived from were subjected to in depth analysis. All the data and the MSDS was based upon that particular biocidal compound which was then established in or related to a chemical in a database.

So what happens if two different pesticides are combined? All bets are off. Unknown territory. No MSDS exists. No data for poison control to work with. Mathematically speaking, an infinite variable.
So plant nursery uses pesticide A. Plants are sent to distribution centers which may use pesticide B then are commonly shipped to wholesale nurseries which may use pesticide C and so on.

And the fact of the matter is use of different pesticides on the same plant is very common. Welcome to the bonus of our chemical world.
