Yech! What an ugly bug. I have plenty of these huge cave (or camel) crickets where I live:

They sneak out from the crawlspace and crawl out from under the dishwasher. I'll find them jumping about, and they jump high! Free food for the t's! =D

My grandparents basement had a plague of those things. They are so cool. All whiped out by an exterminator too. Last time I was there the sticky mats were covered in those and house centipedelings. :(

I grew up in Northern Utah (still live here) and when I was a kid I was digging in the back yard under a bush and dug one of those Jerusalem crickets up. It was huge and scared the shit out of me. It looked like one of those aliens on the old Outer Limits. Needless to say I buried that sucker back up and didn't dig back there anymore =D

I live in the East Bay, about 1 hour from San Francisco, and it gets pretty hot out here during the summer. On hot summer nights i could find a couple Jerusalem Crickets wondering around in the sand. Pretty common around here

Crickets are a symbol of good luck and fortune for the Chinese culture. They have been kept for centuries by almost every dynasty. But that did not stop common folk from capturing crickets for their song and for use in sport. Cricket fighting has a long and glorious history for the Chinese people. Special homes and diets were created for the prized fighters. This is a similiar tradition for filipinos and spider wrestling. Just thought I'd share.

For those intersted, Jerusalem crickets can be found as far East as Nebraska, maybe as far north as South- South Dakota.

Who's breeding or collecting them anyways? They are just too cool to not breed them.

I'm going to try my best at breeding them when I get some, hopefully when it gets warmer.

Where are you going to get them from? And can I get some too?
I'd like to try my hand at breeding as well.

Well, some random books from my school library. They are all pretty old but it says that they feed on roots and potatoes etc. and females are highly cannibalistic, once they mate though the female digs a burrow 8 or 9 inches deep and lays her eggs.
