It Molted!

I'm new to tarantulas and have a small red knee (which is my first). After this one, I can see why people have so many different tarantulas. I've had it for about 3 weeks and it only ate once since I brought it home but it hasn't eaten for the past 11 days. I was nervous that something might be wrong but when I looked at it last night, I saw that it molted. It was a relief to see that it had molted but I didn't get to see it molt which I wanted to see. Anyway, just wanted to share and to say hi to everyone.

Congrats and now don't feed it for a few days. Give those fangs a chance to harden up. Oh you will be getting more T's ...yes you will. One is never enough.

That is cool! We have a redknee that is molting now also. He is gonna get big with this one. He is also going to graduate into a body covered in hairs.

welcome, and yes, you probably will get more Ts LOL....we all did

That way, we don't obsess over the 1 or 2 that we have...when you have hundreds...someone is always molting, eating, breeding, making an eggsac, etc

I'm already looking for other Ts to buy but I have a lot of learning to do first. One thing I'm curious about is the sex of my red knee so I gotta ask a question that has probably been asked a million times here but... how old/large do they have to be to sex them?

Most people can sex them at 2.5" or larger because it shows more easily

I just pulled out his/her molt and there isn't much of the abdomen left so I guess I'll have to wait until it gets larger.

What size is your T? If you can get a good picture of its underside and it is large enough post the picture and I am sure someone will sex it for you. Like the rest here I welcome you to the boards and congratulate you on your first T and molt.
