Hi,

I have a quite good preserved cast off exoskeleton of my immature Haplopelma minax male.
Would anyone be so kind as to examine this exuviae in order to confirm that it is a real H.minax?

Cheers,
Tom

You need to check the leg length relations on the old skin.

Hi,

Length of Leg I: ~3,8cm, length of Leg IV: ~4.0cm so the RF=95. (It will be more accurate, when the male grows up)

It is much more than 90 and there is no patch of long hair on Met. IV and Tarsus IV dorsally. So it makes that we rule out H.longipes. But all in all it still doesn't prove that it is real H.minax... Any ideas? :?

Cheers,
Tom

With the info we have at hand it can either be H. minax or H. sp. "Vietnam" and since I have never seen a H. minax with orange spinnerets, and have seen plenty H. sp. "Vietnam" with just that I would assume it to be the latter ;-)

isnt RF for minax around 100? or does it vary during development?

how reliable is RF when it is a juvenile spider?

H. sp "Vietnam"/vonwirthi is still a nice spider!

It does vary but 95 is well within the range we can expect for minax and H. sp. "Vietnam" ;-)

You would need to supply the same info as for the other species to establish if it is a H. minax at all, as for the sex you will have to check the exuvia to be sure.

Soren any idea on this one being "real" minax?
