hey all. I found this orb weaver in my garden not far off from where i found my female orb weaver. My only question is it a male or a sling. If its a sling id like to keep it for a month or 2 to get pictures with webbing then release it. But if its a male i want to pair him with my female but i know the end results for him. I got her from outside about 10 feet away from the garden hes been in so i figured they are the same spieces i jsut cant see enough detail on the little one. I'll take whichever one its no big deal either way but was just wondering. I see the male palps but rather be sure. Sorry these are the best oics i have so far

Yes, with those palpal bulbs, it is definitely a mature male spider - but before you try pairing it with your female, you should make sure they are the same species. Otherwise, it is likely that she'll just eat him. Just because you found them both in the same yard/garden does not mean they're the same kind of spider. I could probably go out in my yard right now and find at least a dozen different species of spiders - including several different orb weavers.

Thanks. Had a feeling it was a male but didnt want to get it wrong but no matter how close i get i cant see all his detail. He has the same legs and stripe as my female but other than that looks like a blob of light brown

Try turning up the magnification on your phone camera before taking the picture. Then once taken zoom in. My phone doesn't have as good a camera as the iPhone, but I managed to get a good close up of my jumper that was only about 3mm fully stretched out lol

I'll definitely give it a try i have a galaxy note 10+ and my camera usually gets great picture quality but he so small it makes it like pixilated
