True, but most want a female for the longer lifespan. If money isn't an object, but time is, then you are in the "buy a guaranteed female" category.

Well said.

As for the "that spiders too much for me" folk, once you get into breeding your favorite T's, like myself and SpiderMonkey, and you'll find yourself paying what it takes to get exactly what you need to get the job done. If moneys a problem, and breeding isn't in the near future, buy a sling, and wait. No shame in that at all.

Typicaly, the more envolved/higher end/more costly endevours in any hobby aren't for everyone.

Everyone may not want 3 or 4 of the same species (Gasp, everyone may not want to breed their spiders!!??) Also, everyone may not want to wait 1-2 years for the slings to grow). If your and individual who wants a large female GBB, it doesn't really matter how many slings you could buy for the same price.

Thats true, but i think with most people they would rather spend less for more. get 2 slings for under $100 or get one female for $180 hmmm....i'd rather spend the other $80 on somthing else.

I agree totally. Why spend $180 on one big T when you can get two or more for the same price or cheaper? Plus slings live longer than adults.

Funny how they have kept there price over here tho Leon i remeber seeing Les Fox selling them for £7.50 a juv in 95 or 96 but i found a add from 93 the other day for them at £5 a sling (also Les), i wonder if it's due to demand or there alleged male munching :?.
Yeah they do seem to hold value well, can't see them ever dropping to the price of Hairy Bananas or albops.

That said, I think any young adult female has to be worth £20 - £30 no matter what the species. Of course, there are the odd exceptions like rosea and at the other end of the scale various Xenesthis/Poecilotheria/Brachypelma/Cyriopagopus will fetch bigger money of course.

But we all know you're just a tight ******* really Fry. ;P

I would be more inclined to spend the money on 1 adult of known gender than to buy and raise multiple slings. It is a matter of limited space and time.

As an an Amerikan i have been raise to believe that I have the right to what I want, NOW! ;)

Why you cheeky chappy just you wait until the BTS show then you will some real money spent il fork up double what you saw me pay for slings last show ;), i could not agree more on adult female prices if captive bred or raised, with sling's most ppl used to work by the rule of a sling being 10% to 20% the price of adult female which iv always thought fair but with many of the newer species around nowadays there is no "open market" price being listed/quoted for adult fem’s as a guide anymore.

I have to agree, as space is becoming limited here. I'll probably decide when I get there. Who knows....I'll probably end up with the White Knee or a Blondii.
:embarrassed:
Although I just impulse-bought my 1st snake (always wanted one but wasn't planning on it) He's/ She's a very sweet, captive-bred FL King Snake. We're bonding nicely...but that's another board. :)
