So......Do any keepers out there have an air cleaner? I just bought an Ionic Breeze at a meer 449.00.
Its interesting its been running little over an hour and already my T room smells like it just rained. Its nice.
Well I have no idea if its going to make a drastic difference but at least there is some air moving about and I will sleep better.

I use a Holmes air purifier.

Sorry to say, I'm wary of the ionics. I read they create ground level ozone. Not good for people with asthma

No, I don't have an air purifier, I have a fan.
And with no allergies, I don't see a need to have one.

I remember reading a thread and someone saying how much of a pain it is to change the filters because of all the urticating hairs. Regardless, sounds like a worthwhile investment I may look into.

Well I think the Ionic Breeze is that Smarter Image one where you just take out the metal filter and wash it off under the tap. That might not be so bad for the hairs that get adhered to it.

We have 3 cats in the house and for some reason our house is always really dusty, not sure if its just this new house or what. We've always had the three cats but this house is by far the dustiest ever. I also have frequent headaches from whether its indoor or outdoor allergies.

But I can't justify the cost of one of those units without seeing it actually working. So be sure to let us know how you like it and how effective it is in the long run.

Interesting reading on air ionizers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_ionizer

Its just a collection grid that you take out and rinse in the sink and let dry if you want. Or wipe with a damp towel. And I dont thing there is enough tarantula hair floating around to even make it a big deal...
It really is nice though... Smells like fresh rain in my room.

Even just in the short run this is worth it..... there is a unit that is meant to handle 300sq feet, try that one first...... its 200 but they have a 60 day return policy.... so if you dont like it take it back!
Dang I am starting to sound like a rep for them :D

yes i was about to mention the samething that the ionic breeze or equivalent can produce its own ozone (kinda like a smog) in your own room. pretty much causing more damage than good.

i read it in Yahoo news awhile back,,,personally i wouldnt use it.

ozone

The new ionic breeze machines have a device that breaks up ozone into O2 plain old molecular oxygen thuss eliminating that problem.

yea i would have to say my biggest problem is the cost. So long as the room is well ventilated i havent really noticed problems. But then again I only have 1 T left right now, soon to be 2 but still nothing extreme, and only one with hairs lol.

About half of my Ts are new world hair flickers and my husband is having some moderate irritation reactions just walking into the room. I've been thinking about getting one of these as a way of sweeping some of the hairs out of the air to make it more comfortable for him. I'd be really interested to know how well this works for you after a while.

I couldn't get one of these because ionic air purifiers are pretty much known to kill birds, and I have a parrot. (There's a lot of stuff I can't have because I have a bird.) I never thought about one working well in a T room. :)

NeitherSparky, you could just get a typical HEPA filter style air filter. They mechanically filter out the particles rather than ionize the air.

They work great for people like my mom with allergies to everything in the world EXCEPT pets. When we went on vacation our Quaker went over to their house and never had any problems with it.

And also after owning some form of bird, be it a parakeet, cockatiel or Quaker for years...I've not yet encountered something that's on the long list of "No-No's!" that has bothered them. Then again I was up to Quakers before I discovered there WAS a list.

I think the list is more like "guidelines", if you will. If birds were that sensitive, my mom would have killed off my budgies from her smoking when I was a kid and the cockatiel dust would have choked out half my budgies sitting next door to her cage. :p

Yeah, but its scary. I'm one of those women who doesn't have children so the bird is like, my world. And she's nine years old now, she's practically my child. ;)

And lol, cockatiel dust. One day one of those birds is gonna floof and a giant cloud of that dust is gonna whoosh out over the earth like a neuclear explosion. ;)

I have a yellow sided conure in the same room as the T's and she's fine. I even asked the vet if it was safe and got the go ahead..... I think youd be fine. Shes my baby too I know what you mean.

I have the Ionic Breeze Pro GP and love it. Had it about 2years now and running strong. The best way to get one is to find a friend who wants one too. But two at once and the second is 50% off. So you just split the cost with your friend and you both get a great deal... ;) However sharperimage might not like me pushing that idea... but i spend enough money with them.:D
