Interesting behaviour from sub-adult avic avic

Hi,

Got a couple of new Ts yesterday, one of which is a sub-adult female Avicularia Avicularia M6. Here she is:




After moving he into her new home (20x20x30) Exo Terra, she immediately started webbing in the front corner where the door opens. I immediately moved her on with a paintbrush as I don’t won’t her making a home where I can’t open the door. There’s plenty of nice cork bark and leaves if she goes exploring.

When I went to check on her an hour later she was doing the same in the same place! So I left her.

When I went to bed she had moved behind the cork bark, but had left this:



Anyone seen this before. Surely she can’t have been deliberately trying to secure the door?

Probably coincidence and my imagination. Interesting all the same though.

Honestly I would be relieved to see webbing so soon

Edit just thought of something. Avics are notorious for not using water dishes, but will drink water droplets off the webbing. I wouldn't limit it to just Avicularia though. I don't trust any of mine to drink. But now I'm wondering if all these tarantulas webbing over water dishes isn't to be little punks, but to collect condensation? Does everyone already know this??

That’s an interesting idea. I’ve some other avics also web over water. Wonder if it’s to collect water? Maybe they spot that water collects in the water bowl and put some webs around/above to capture some.

My c. Versi has not done this, but she regularly drinks from the water bowl.

She’s also made a sizeable web behind the cork bark overnight so yes, she’s settled well very quickly.

Haha my pink-toed did that too- he webbed around the latch that opened his tank and I periodically had to ruin his web to clean/water his dish and he immediately went back to webbing over it.
It was like a lil war going on!

My B. boehmei secures the whole lid and sticks hairs up all the way around it, who knows Sometimes it's convenient to feed them if they do live near the door, rip away...
