My 2 year old spotted this spider on the wall in our house. I thought it was a tarantula at first when I saw it. ( I have no experience with spiders). I caught it and put it in a small vivarium type tank I had. I did some looking on line and from what I can tell its either a giant house spider or a hobo spider. Its the biggest spider I have ever come across. I also thought this might be a good teaching opp for my 6 year old about spiders and that they are harmless to people and beneficial.
We are located on the north end of Vancouver Island in Campbell River. From my reading we have a wide assortment of large spiders that live here.
Could someone let me know what kind of spider this is.
