Please help ID, found on my ceiling by my children in a dead spider pose (legs pulled up around body). After searching endlessly, I have come up with Loxosceles Deserta. Any ideas??

Sorry, this is in the Las Vegas area. Body is ~1/2" and legs are 1" inch long each.

that is the best my camera is capable of. the eyes appear to be Very close together:

ie: oo or 0o0

I have no magnifying glass to check closer

Looks like a mature male Filistatid to me. Maybe a pholcid.....but I think more likely a Filistatid? Loxosceles have 6 eyes in three dyads and the eyes in the picture look way to close together to be that.

after looking at a few more pictures, it does look a little bit more like a filistatid than a loxosceles to me... i should probably get out of this thread

hmmm, upon a second look, you seem to be correct sir. the eyes do seem to be a bit close together. still, TraumaRN, you should look at the eyes best you can. reclusa will have 3 distinct dyads. that is the distinguishing characteristic. b/c it's not a spitter...

An adult male Kukulcania sp. is what it is.

I think we have a winner. The eyes are in one distinct cluster at the top of the head, and has huge palpi?

I did read that the Kukulcania is often mistaken for what I mistook it for.

This is pretty cool and may turn into a hobby for me and the kids (hopefully with live specimens, though)!
