I talked to a breeder online who sold hybrid jumping spiders. Why should she do this?!

Seems to me that this issue with hybrids is dishonesty of breeders, not because of hybridization.
I'm not familiar with the status of P. otiosus in the hobby, but if we are really losing them, we should probably concentrate our efforts on breeding, buying, and selling the actual species rather than the hybrid. It's also probably like a game of telephone, information is lost and/or embellished as it is repeated over and over again. For example, one person may be sold an unlabeled hybrid and do their own research and decide it's a true P. otiosus and then sell the offspring as such.

At the end of the day, IMO, there is no reason for these hybrids to exist except for human hubris. That is what created them. The same kind of thing that led our creators to interbreed constant stuff, and if the ancient theories are to be believed, WE ourselves are a product of a similar program.

So what exactly is the problem with hybridization if its done with animals that will never leave captivity and if they are clearly labeled as hybrids?
the nature of hybridization though, is that eventually down the line, someone is going to forget/mislabel, and then those hybrids will then be bred to pure/full blooded normal species without people knowing. while this is the folly of man, why tempt fate and potentially ruin whole populations in the hobby for no real reason?

hybrids are often *not* better than their pure progenitors. if anything, they are less healthy and less successful- e.g infertile/sterile.

if you want a purple instead of a blue or red creature, get a purple one to start with. you dont need to force things to adhere to your vision.

in addition, since jumpers are a "new hobby" theres NOT stable populations of all species in captivity. this creates a shortage of one or both species and ruins their cb activity. theres plenty of reasons hybridization is bad just point blank, but specifically for jumpers its a much bigger issue.

I don't see the problem, humans have made some interesting animals through hybridization.
Who are we to play Creator? If it happens in the wild, so be it but why intentionally make something that most likely will have health issues?

All Royal pythons are the same species, most with neuralogica and other incurable cross bred problems.

So what is your point ?
He is probably pointing out usually hybrid refers to crossing at species level or higher. but some call crossed varieties and races hybrids too :) In that sense, dogs, ball pythons etc arent hybrids, they are line/selective bred. which in those species' is generally quite grim :(

ball pythons crossed with bloods, carpets, angolan etc pythons would universally be considered hybrids. many wouldnt consider crossing a pied with an albino of the same species a hybrid. But some might.

The ethical issues to them (dogs, balls) seems more about ethics of care as well as inbreeding, not so much hybridizing as many wouldnt consider them hybrids. though making true hybrids can also create some pretty unfortunate results that should be assessed more carefully before people just randomly make things breed together and have a batch of animals in true pain or distress.
