Anyone ever try this method of making gel from diapers and water? Any issue for giving to my desert beetles or hissers for their water source? Thanks I did make up a batch very easy, just want to make sure there is nothing harmful. Many videos on youtube of people using it.

I would think there would be lots of chemicals added to it. It would likely contaminate the water and make it unsafe but you could email the manufacturing department and ask what they add to it.

Would water crystals be a better choice? They sell a few different ones on ebay.

As much as I laughed till it hurt. You will want medium water crystals for beetles and hissers. You will literally spend soooo much more on w/e you use for diapers and they likely have some sort of silica in them which is a big no no. You will have to dial in the water to crystal formula though. Too much water and your inverts will get stuck and drown. Too little and it will be like eating wet chalk for them. For me it's like 5 gallons per 1/2 cup of medium crystals. That is very liberal on the water side. You may need more. It should look like chunky pudding.

No idea what baby diapers use to be so absorbent; if it's polyacrylamide, then it's the same stuff used in water crystals but there's likely other chemicals. The crystals in diapers are pretty small and you might get more of a gel when added to water rather than getting crystals. Why take the chance of there being some undisclosed chemical not intended for internal consumption by humans or invertebrates? Water crystals are cheap and readily available; I brought a pound of medium sized crystals off of Amazon a year ago to sustain my cricket and cockroach colonies and there's still about 2/3 of a pound left.

It's just you and Amazon standing between me and my healthy delicious wet diaper diet. It's expensive but it absorbs the Covid from the tapwater.
I'm kidding. You are wasting money buying diapers for spiders. If anyone you know is eating diaper gel to avoid Covid, cut your ties asap...
I'm not going to link gel on eBay as I caught one warning from mods this week.

Hi
the price of dry water cristals is so low where I am so is just not worth the risk and hassle.
I got a small bag 50g or so last year for £2 and still have half of it left.It takes only 1/4 tea spoon ish to make a jar full just by adding cooled boiled water.

In 2019 I started using non-colored polyacrylamide 'water beads' for my little roaches. I haven't had any issues so far.

The water absorbative stuff in diapers (instant snow) is not the same thing as water gel. Honestly you don't even need water gel you can just use cucumber or other vegatables with high water content. Cheaper and arguably safer and healthier. Make sure they're organic because you don't want to feed them pesticides.

I did a quick search on YouTube, and I’m not finding any videos that suggest in any way that diapers are a good or cost effective source of water gel. The OP hasn’t been back since. I think we’ve been trolled.
