Even if they barely move, the majority (barring obligate burrowers) have the decency of standing smack in the middle of the cage for us to gawk at their beauty :)

My B. hamorii made it clear that she didn't need her hide as she filled it up with substrate :p

There is nothing else in my home I have ever wanted to check on at 2AM, with a flashlight, than a T. And even a NW, sitting in the exact same spot as 12 hours earlier ... is a delight to see. At 2AM. With a flashlight. There simply are no words.

Absolutely, tarantulas are great and I love talking about them to people with an interest, which surprisingly happens quite often in my experience.

This. I'm actually surprised that the majority of people I talk to concerning my hobby are genuinely interested instead of being creeped out. I have a molt of my B. hamorii in a plastic bag that has taken permanent residence in my boss' office. Whenever we get visit from HR or Head Office, we pretty much always take it out to show to new faces. It always makes for interesting conversation :) Many are stunned by the coloration pattern on the legs, I guess many assume that all Ts are just big, brown spiders. Eventually, I want to up my game with something that has even more drastic colors, such as a C. cyaneopubescens. One of these days :)

It's funny how I keep both snakes and tarantulas, but most people are more interested and less creeped out about my Ts vs my snakes.
