All I can say is, WOW - what an absolute sweetheart!! I was rehousing the little booger and decided... Aw, what the heck. So easy-going. I don't think it knew what to make of me holding it  ;)

Enjoy the pics!

Thanks! :) I actually can't tell yet what gender this one is... I'm seriously hoping it's a female, though!

sorry I should have edited my post, I am almost positive that is a female, just based on paterns alone.

Thanks Tortuga and thedude :) he/she had a tube web built underground so I just carefully pulled it apart and allowed it to walk up on my hand before I put it down into the new setup. Ryan kinda inspired me with all of his Pokie YouTube vids so, I was feeling kind of excited about holding my own ;)

Protectyaaaneck, wow, I sure hope you're right. That would be wonderful :D I've never heard of sexing Pokies based on colour patterns. I wonder how accurate that would be?

Pokies are one of the few species of T that have a considerable amount of sexual dimorphism. However, I think they have to be atleast juevies for the sexing to be accurate judging on opisthosomal markings.

Pokies can be sexed at or around the 1.5-2" mark ventrally. Sexing by colors or patterns at this size is a waste of time b/c the sexes will still display the same colors. I didn't need a ventral shot of your regalis b/c regalis females are pretty easy to spot and your's was big enough to be portraying male or female colors. The solid white stripe on the abdomen is pretty much a dead giveaway. There is still a hint of dark within that stripe but you can tell it's fading. A regalis that size and showing those markings is definitely a female.

I know someone allready posted this but I just wanted to point out that post 4 talks about sexing and even shows ventral pics of both regalis sexes.

Wow, that's amazing! Thanks so much! :D I hadn't a clue. I thought they had to be bigger in order to sex them properly without a molt? I guess you learn something new every day. After seeing my H. lividum sporting grey and blue I was led into believing it was a female (never got a chance to get any of the molts before they were destroyed). Come to find out it molted into a mature male :( Gorgeous olive brown, but not the beautiful charcoal grey and blue I was expecting!

just FYI: and in case there are any misconceptions...
most Ts do have to be a bit bigger or older to be able to sex.. and most aren't by just lookin' at'm..

Well, I was referring to Pokies there... I rely solely on molts to determine the gender - I'm fairly good at ventral sexing, just not with Pokies :D

True, which is why I'm sadly going to have to wait for the next molt.... *sniff*...

But at least I know how gentle it can be... Not necessarily saying it *will* be again in the future... ;)

No kidding. I wouldn't reccomend getting the hang of taking it out to hold it cause it decided to be calm just once.
